I find it very interesting that when my siblings and I get together we spend more time reminiscing about our childhoods than we do discussing our current events. Sigh, if only we could have enjoyed it more in the moment instead of being in such a hurry to grow up!
Whenever we have these discussions about the "good old days"... the topic of crime and punishment usually comes up. As the youngest of four children and with an age-gap of six years to my nearest sibling, I have very little to contribute to this conversation. Either I didn't get into trouble or my parents were too tired to worry about it. My brothers Sidney, John and sister Christie have always had plenty to say on the topic though.
Some of MY favorites are their very creative excuses for bad behavior. For example, my sister came up with the following after she threw a chair at my brother John, missed, and punched a hole through the door: "It wouldn't have hit the door if he hadn't moved out of the way." And Sidney once blamed Christie for something he had done "because she wasn't here to stop me." I think he set the record for grounding at 3 months. The funny thing is: nobody remembers what he actually did.
Happy Anniversary to my parents who have been married 44 years today. 43 of those years with children.... which has surely earned them each a sainthood. I think they will be the patron saints of tired, tested, and trodden-down parents.

Happy Anniversary, Melinda's parents!
Your siblings have the best excuses! I'm still laughing about the "because she wasn't here to stop me."!
Wow at 44 years!!! Happy Anniversary to them.
A friend and I were speaking about wanting to grow up too fast ~ I always wanted to be an adult LOL so I could do things and buy things..... I was saying how I don't want my girl to wish her childhood away, which is partly why she gets and does soooo much LOL. I want her to love her childhood...
When I was 8, my mum built a house in Melbourne. It was her pride and joy...
Not long after we moved in, my sister and I were fighting (a common occurance lmao) and she was chasing me into the bedroom. On the way, a door was flung open and the handle went straight into the wall. OMG we shit ourselves!! We covered it with paper and stuck the paper down with toothpaste LMAO, hoping Mum wouldn't see it..... she actually didn't for a few days. At the time, i remember thinking "it's only a wall ~ we can fix it". Now, I totally understand why she wanted to put a hole in us :P
Funny! Surely they have some funny stories to tell about the baby of the family though?
My baby brother told us the cat had chewed it's whiskers off. (He was three, and handy with scissors.)
I'm all teary eyed over your last post.
It is the job of the older children to break the parents so that the littlest ones get away with everything. However, speaking as an oldest child, I will now freely admit that I quite often just blamed the other (younger) 2,working on the assumption that I had a good reputation for behaviour. And it was surprising how often that tactic worked.
Happy anniversary to your folks.
This is exactly the reason you need siblings, just so you have someone to blame for stuff.
Wow, now it all seems clearer why my brother hated me!!! I love these excuses.....
Speaking as Sussanah's sibling!!! I always took the heat for everything that I did andeverything that our other sister did. She knows this to be the truth.
I hope that your baby had a good day at school. Does she want to go back again?
Congrats to your parents!!
Your get togethers sound like my family's. With 5 evenly spaced kids, there are always plenty of stories to go around, and nobody escapes.
Happy Anniversary to my 2nd Mom and Dad! We have the best memories at your old house.
Happy Anniversary to your parents. The part of your post about reminiscing your childhoods reminds me of my brother & I. We can never remember what the 'crime' was either! And I loved the excuses!
