Abby comes to my office on Thursday afternoons. I always let her have her scissors and some scrap paper to cut up into however many little tiny bits she wants. She loves it and it frees me up to get a little bit of actual work done. While I was doing a little data input Abby managed to capture my undivided attention by saying:
"How do you like my new haircut?"
My heart stopped for a moment and in the millisecond it took me to whip my head around I was envisioning months of bad mullet grow out. Indeed there was a small pile of little blond curls on the floor. But she just snipped the ends off a few inches, nowhere near the roots. Thank the Lord. In fact, it curls under and you can't even tell she looks any different. So she still has all of this:

They all do something like that at least once. Thank goodness the damage wasn't too bad.
Oh OH!! Is that not just one of the WORST questions your child can ask you? My daughter cut her own hair TWICE. Fortunately it wasn't too tragic either time.
At least she didn't hack the front!! Did you rouse on her so hard she is permanently scarred and will never try that stunt again?
Phew!! What a relief.
They ALL do it. It is such a rite of passage. My oldest waited until she was 7 and had hair right down her back before she tried it out. She was leaning forward over some drawing and pasting, and found her hair annoying her, so chopped at it - right across the front about three cms from the scalp. Arghhh.
Glad the damage wasn't too bad in Abby's case.

So you have the mullet there too? I thought it was an ausssie phrase...so Miss Abby has style adn didn't go that far....can you imagine? YOu'd want to put her in t-shirts for months while it grew out that said, "I cut my own hair. My mum is not responsible".
I am suprised Aria has not done it - was thinking, ah, she's too vein to mess with her hair ...then I read Fairlie's comment!
Well, I think she did a lovely job.
I popped over from Fairlie's blog to see what the link was about. I'm sure this is a right of passage; I recall vividly giving myself little haircuts here and there to take off the "rooster tails" instead of giving them a proper soaking. No one ever mentioned a word, likely because Mom's haircuts were so incredibly poor. Thank goodness I saw a hairdresser starting in about Grade 4!
My daughter, then my granddaughter, both cut their fringes- bangs?- when they were about 3. Right to the scalp! No way to disguise the cut part!! And class photos were to be taken with granddaughter, so we have permanant reminders.
