Panic

We had to take Miss Abby to the ER Saturday night. Right in the middle of Rob's birthday supper. She had what we thought looked like an infected bug bite. A large, swollen, red lump on her inner thigh. It was painful and she was very clear that we weren't to touch it.

The doctor spent about 2 minutes with us (our of a 2 and a half hour stay) and told us, without benefit of a culture or any kind of test, that he suspected MRSA -
Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. She had a small abscess that would need to be drained, but it was too small for him to do then. We were told to wait until Monday to see our regular pediatrician and that the procedure could be done in the office. In the meantime, we were given a prescription for Bactrim, told to keep warm compresses on it and come back if it got worse.

Monday has arrived and we have a 3 p.m. appointment with our physician. Abby seems to feel good over all. She spent part of last night dancing around her room in her Happy Birthday tiara, wearing Dora pajamas and putting on garish blue eye shadow. I, however, am a wreck! Google is not your friend when your child is sick. Everything that pops up is worst-case scenario horrors. Not good for a worrywart like me. Good thing Rob can keep a level-head in these types of situations. It's the only thing keeping me from full-blown, nail-chewing, nausea-inducing PANIC!

Well firstly, happy birthday Rob! Sorry you had such an exciting one!

Poor Abby! What is it about ER doctors? And why doesn't the show depict them in a more realistic light? I know why, they wouldn't be able to fill up the hour, it would all be over in a few minutes, advertisements included!

Hope your baby is better soon!!

We're back from the doctor's office. Abby screamed like something out of a horror film when they stuck her and poked and prodded around. The good news is that they have seen it this year in our community and the strain seems to respond very well to antibiotics. She is watching Scooby and getting lots of babying now. Hopefully she's back to normal soon.

Oh Melinda. That's so sad. I'm glad Abby is resting comfortably watching Scooby. My mom had that MRSA recently too. It came from out of nowhere.

When I first got preggo 6+ years ago I googled something about pregnancy cramping. I swore I was having an ectopic pregnancy. From then on I have banned myself from using google. It really is worst case scenario and just makes matters worse.

I hope Abby is feeling better soon.

Much love from NJ,
Sue

I'm glad that she is now okay and I hope you are feeling calm and collected once more. I thought you would like to know that Bactrim brings me out in a rash. Just thought I'd share that.

Happy Birthday Rob!

I got my medical degree from Google University too. You can scare the living daylights out of yourself google-diagnosing!

Glad to hear Abby is on the mend.
